12 Rosslyn Terrace, Dowanhill, Glasgow

5 Rosslyn Terrace is a terrace of 16 two-bay houses located in Dowanhill, Glasgow. The houses were constructed in two phases, with Nos 1-14 built around 1872 and Nos 15 and 16 completed around 1875. All the houses feature similar classical detailing, with Nos 15 and 16 having a curving facade and a wider right bay.

The buildings are two stories high, with an attic and basement. They are finished in polished ashlar, which is partly painted or stone cleaned, and feature v-channeling at the ground level and above the first-floor canted windows.

Access to the houses is via steps that oversail the basement, leading to tripartite doorways with glazed sidelights and double-leaf outer doors. Nos 15 and 16 have a plain doorway. Above the doors, there is a single architraved window, and to the left of Nos 15 and 16, there are bipartite windows. The canted bay window at these houses rises from the basement through both stories. Nos 1 and 2 are similarly detailed but arranged as a mirrored pair.

The windows are sash windows with plate glass glazing. A cornice over the ground floor serves as a cill band for the first-floor windows. The eaves course features a modillion cornice and a plain parapet. The dormers are either paired piended or flat-roofed, and there are corniced axial stacks atop slate roofs.

The terrace has a three-bay polished ashlar flank facing Huntly Road, which is similarly detailed. Elegant cast-iron railings adorn the steps and basement. Inside, there is generally good plasterwork in the hall and stairs, and Nos 1 and 2 have cast-iron balustrades on the parapets of the canted windows.
