1 Huntly Gardens, Glasgow

9 Huntly Gardens in Glasgow is a terrace of two-bay houses built around 1872, arranged in pairs and stepped down a slope. The buildings are three storeys high over a basement, primarily constructed of polished ashlar, some of which is painted or cleaned, while No. 2 is roughcast.

The entrance features steps that extend over the basement, leading to Corinthian pilaster doorpieces topped with a mutule cornice. The outer doors are double-leaf and panelled. Canted windows rise from the basement to the first floor on the right for Nos. 1-10, and on the left for Nos. 11-30, which have an incised parapet. The second floor has a tripartite architraved window. Above the doors, there are single-light architraved windows that are consoled and corniced at the first floor. Most of the sash windows have plate-glass glazing, with some featuring acid-etched panels in the lower sashes. A string course runs at the second floor cills and at the eaves, topped with a bracketed cornice. The buildings have axial stacks with plain flues and slate roofs. There are cast-iron railings of various patterns at the basement and steps, along with square cast-iron gatepiers; some modern railings are present at Nos. 15 and 17.

The flank facing 1 Huntly Gardens and 12 Saltoun Street has a four-bay elevation with a single-storey and basement addition at the rear. This section is painted ashlar, and all windows are architraved, with individual cast-iron balconies supported on cast-iron brackets at the first floor. A full-height canted bay is located to the right, and there are tall wallhead stacks and a piended roof with brattishing. The rear addition features a five-light bow window.

The flank facing Huntly Road has a three-bay design with a two-storey bow-ended addition at the rear, sharing similar details with the main elevation. No. 3 has a tripartite door with pilaster jambs and glazed sidelights, while No. 11 features acid-etched glass and a notable art nouveau door. There are also a pair of squat square ashlar gatepiers at the carriageway, which support cast-iron lamp brackets.
