139-175 High Street, Burntisland

139-175 High Street in Burntisland is a three-storey tenement building with an attic, dating from the later part of the 19th century and refurbished around 1990. It features shops on the ground floor that have been altered. The central entrance has an elliptical-arched pend below a recessed bay. The building is constructed of polished ashlar with stone cills and an eaves course, topped with a cornice, while the rear is harled.

The south elevation facing High Street is symmetrical, with a recessed bay at the center. To the right, there are two shops that have been merged into one, featuring a unifying cornice and a black tiled surround, with in-canted glazed entrances and a decorative tiled division, as well as awnings and a moulded string course. To the left, there are two irregular shops, each with a two-leaf part-glazed recessed door at the center. The inner left shop has traditional detailing, including a chamfered pilaster on the west side, a fluted Ionic pilaster on the east side, and a corniced fascia board. The outer left shop has a modern surround. All doors are fitted with plate glass fanlights. The first and second floors have regular fenestration in seven bays, and there are four modern swept dormer windows with 19th-century rooflights in between.

The northeast elevation features a central pend to the left of an advanced four-bay block to the west, which has a projecting stair to the left of the center and windows on each floor, with swept dormer windows above the second and fourth bays. To the east, there is a three-bay block with a center projecting stair and windows on each floor, along with swept dormer windows above the first and third bays.

The windows primarily have a 12-pane timber glazing pattern in sash and case style, with plate glass glazing in the sash and case windows on the first floor to the right of the pend. The roof is covered with grey slates and features coped ashlar skews, while the stacks have been removed.
