Description
This is a Romanesque hall church built in 1844, designed by John Tait of Edinburgh. It is located on Bo’Ness Road, Polmont. The church is constructed of stugged ashlar stone with polished ashlar dressings. It features two eastern towers that clasp the main hall. The central entrance has a round-headed arch beneath a projecting pointed gable, ornamented with a hood-mould featuring mask label stops. Above the entrance is a tripartite window with deeply splayed reveals and a raised central light, topped with an oculus in the gable, and carrying a gable-head cross. The square towers rise in three stages, culminating in pyramidal stone spires and finials. The lower stage of the towers has deeply splayed door reveals to the north and south, and smaller windows facing east. The second and third stages are set back. Clasping buttresses support the hall, which has five bays and four tall windows divided by buttresses. All windows are latticed with glazed margins. The roof is slate. The towers have louvred openings recessed in rectangular panels within the upper stages. A block corbel table runs along the top of the hall.
