Description
The building is a water pump located in Dunmore Village, dated 1879 and restored in the late 20th century. It features a two-stage design by 'Wm Bailey & Sons, 71 Gracechurch Street, London', and is covered by a gabled rectangular canopy. The base is stepped and made of dressed sandstone blocks. Doric columns support the slated canopy, which has cusped bargeboarding and decorative pendant finials.
The pump itself is enclosed by the canopy and has a plinth with a lionhead spout set in a segmental-arched panel, topped with a ropework hoodmould on the north side. There are similar blind panels on the east and west sides, and an inscription on the south side. The reduced second stage has engaged colonettes at the corners and features a panel that reads 'THE SCHOOL AND VILLAGE OF DUNMORE / TOGETHER WITH THIS WELL / BUILT BY / CATHERINE HERBERT / COUNTESS OF DUNDONALD / WERE COMPLETED / AD 1879' on the north side, with a handle on the west side, all topped by a stepped moulded cap with a small finial.
