Farm Cottage, Spott Home Farm

Farm Cottage at Spott Home Farm is a mid-19th century building constructed from red rubble sandstone. It consists of a trio of single-storey and attic cottages arranged in an L-plan, along with a single L-plan cottage.

The L-plan trio features two 2-bay cottages to the south, each with a doorway on the left that has fanlit boarded doors and stone-bracketed, penticed slab porches. To the right, there are stone mullioned bipartite windows, with attic windows breaking the eaves in gabled dormerheads. The bays of the right cottage are grouped more widely, while both cottages have blank north and south gables. The single cottage forms the eastern wing at the south end and is detailed similarly. Each cottage has one single window at the rear, with a small-pane glazing pattern and grey slate roofs, as well as gable end and mutual gable stacks, topped with crowstepped gables.

The L-plan cottage has chamfered arrises at the front openings. It is 3-bays wide to the east, featuring a stone-bracketed pentice slab porch at the centre door, flanked by windows. There are two decoratively detailed timber dormers in the outer bays. A lower rear wing extends to the south, with two pointed arched windows at the centre, flanked by pointed arched doors on the south elevation. The glazing includes 4-pane and plate glass, with grey slate roofs and gable end stacks, as well as saw-tooth ashlar skews with consoled gablet skewputts. The building evidently incorporates an earlier cottage.
