Description

The Market Cross in Haddington is a notable structure that dates back to the 19th century. A cross likely existed in the town since the reign of David I, when Haddington was founded, until 1693, when it was replaced by a new cross. The current cross was gifted in 1880 by David and John Bernard of Holme House. It stands 25 feet tall and is made of red sandstone. At the top of the pillar is the Haddington goat, which is the crest of the donors, along with the Lion of Scotland on a castellated style pedestal.
