Description

4 Albert Terrace on Linkfield Road in Musselburgh is a two-storey building with attics, constructed in 1878 by the Musselburgh Heritages Company. It features a symmetrical terrace of 13 houses, each with single and bipartite windows on the first floor, and doors with bipartite windows on the ground floor. The end houses and those flanking the center have doors and three-light canted bay windows.

The terrace has a slate roof with corniced stacks and is built from snecked rubble with ashlar dressings. The cornices of the bay windows extend as a band course on the first floor, with raised window margins that have long and short sides. The central three houses have doorpieces topped with broken pediments that contain ball finials. Other doors feature lugged architraves with the outline of scrolled pediments.

The houses flanking the center have pedimented and pilastered Dutch gables with bipartite attic windows. The end houses have gables designed as open pediments, which include roundels topped by small segmental pediments, flanked by narrow square piended dormers. The other houses have bipartite dormers, except for the central house, which has pedimented three-light dormers. Houses 3, 12, and 13 have been reglazed, while the other dormers have six-pane top sashes and single-pane lower sashes. The remaining windows are single-pane sash. On the rear elevation, each house has a bracketted cast-iron maintenance ladder leading from the first floor to the roof.
