Description
13 Queen Street in Broughty Ferry, Dundee, is a three-storey tenement block designed by James MacLellan Brown for the Housing Director's Office of Dundee Town Council in 1932. The building features an angular horseshoe plan and is constructed from tooled, snecked rubble sandstone with ashlar dressings, while the rear is finished in harled brick. It has a grey slate roof.
The southeast elevation is symmetrical with a recessed central block. The central bay is slightly advanced and includes a door to the close with a raised ashlar panel, a stepped lintel with a chamfered border linked to the base course, and a semi-circular relieving arch. The first and second floors above this bay are blank, leading up to a crow-stepped gable stack. The left and right bays feature a combination of single and bipartite sash and case windows, with a consistent fenestration pattern across all floors. The doors to the close are located at the splayed re-entrants. The advanced wings on the left and right mirror each other, with the left wing showcasing bipartite and single windows on all floors, along with an ashlar door panel and gable stack at a splayed angle on the right, flanked by single windows on all floors.
The northeast elevation has symmetrically placed single windows and bipartites at the stairs.
Inside, each flat contains one or two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom. The property is enclosed by a low round-coped rubble boundary wall at the south.
