Description
1 Queensberry Mews in Dumfries is a three-storey tenement building dated 1884, featuring shops on the ground floor. The structure is topped with a cornice and has an off-centre segmental-arched gated entrance leading to a cobbled pend that opens into a rear courtyard. The facade consists of five bays, arranged as two on the left and three on the right, and is constructed of red ashlar stone.
Each shop has a large window and a recessed door. There are two round-headed doorways for access, each adorned with pilasters and pediments, and featuring panelled doors with fanlights above. The first-floor windows are framed with architraves, while the second-floor windows break through the eaves and are topped with pedimented dormer heads, with a string course at the cill level. The building has moulded eaves, end stacks, and a slate roof.
In the courtyard, there are single-storey buildings with attic windows that also have pedimented dormer heads. At the eastern end of the courtyard, there is a former mission hall dated 1885, which includes a double doorway, rooflights, and an axial ventilator.
