Description
1 Glenisla Gardens in Edinburgh is a single-storey terrace of cottages with attics and basements, designed by George Lennox Beattie in 1898. The cottages are arranged in a 1-2-2 grouping on sloping ground, featuring cream harling on No 1, orange harling on Nos 2 and 3, and green harling on Nos 4 and 5, all with grey sandstone dressings. Architectural details include a base course, a cill band course, an eaves cornice, and advanced entrance blocks with lintel band courses. The doorways are roll-moulded, with surrounds to single windows and aproned cornices above the doorways. The cottages have panelled doors and flat-roofed and piend-roofed bipartite box dormers.
On the west entrance elevation, No 1 has a two-bay design with an advanced entrance bay featuring a doorway and a single window to the right, along with a bipartite window in the outer right bay and box dormers above, with the one to the outer right being piend-roofed. Nos 2 and 3 have a four-bay mirrored design with advanced entrances in the second and third bays, each doorway flanked by single windows. There are bipartite windows in the outer left and right bays, with single lights in the centre. Each bay has box dormers above, which are piend-roofed in the outer bays. Nos 4 and 5 mirror the design of Nos 2 and 3. The north elevation features a gabled design with a single window at basement level and a stair window. The sash and case windows have two-pane lower sashes and six-pane upper sashes. The roof is covered with grey-green slate, featuring harled coped stacks, terracotta ridge tiles, and finials on the piend-roofed dormers, along with coped gables and moulded eaves guttering with scroll skewputts.
The interiors were not seen during the assessment in 1991.
