Description

12 Warriston Crescent in Edinburgh is a curved terrace of two-storey and basement houses built between 1817 and 1830 by architect James Gillespie Graham. The houses are arranged in mirrored pairs and constructed from droved sandstone ashlar with polished dressings, while the rear features random rubble and the northern end elevation is harled. There are dividing bands between the basement and ground floors, as well as between the ground and first floors, along with cill courses at both levels and an eaves cornice. Access to the main entrances is provided by arched stair platts that over-sail the basement areas.

The northwest (principal) elevation is regularly fenestrated, although there have been some alterations to the basement windows. The timber panelled doors, many of which are decorative, feature fanlights with designs such as umbrellas, sunbursts, and ovals. The mansard roof at No. 20 includes a carved 'salve' over the door.

Most of the windows are 12-pane timber sash and case, and the roofs are covered with graded grey slates. The stone skews and coped ashlar stacks, which have circular cans, are located on the ridges and wallheads at the rear.

The property also features cast-iron handrails on the stairs and spear-headed railings along the street.
