10 West Scotland Street Lane, Edinburgh

4 West Scotland Street Lane is a building from the earlier 19th century, consisting of two L-plan mews blocks that form a V-plan mews with a triangular courtyard. The structure is mainly built of coursed rubble, with some droved dressings.

The north block is predominantly two stories high and features a variety of two-leaf vertically-boarded timber doors in bays at the ground level, along with segmental-arched carriage door openings at the center. In the northeast corner, there is a two-leaf six-panel timber door with a six-pane fanlight above it. The block also has round-arched loading doors that rise into a stone gabled dormerhead, which breaks the eaves; these doors are glazed on the left side, with timber infill on the right. Additionally, there are cement infilled loading doors at the northeast angle and on the outer right side.

The south block is also predominantly two stories tall and includes an original relieving arch centered at the ground level. It features a variety of two-leaf vertically-boarded timber garage doors in bays at the ground. To the right of the center, there is a modern shop front with a plate glass window, and above it, a stone gabled dormerhead that breaks the eaves at the attic level. There is a casement window breaking the eaves to the left of the center and a vertically-boarded timber infilled loading door on the east return.

The building showcases a variety of windows and roof types, along with cast-iron rainwater goods. The ashlar wallhead and ridge stacks are coped and feature circular cans.
