Description

This is a two-storey, three-bay villa, likely dating from around 1870 to 1875. It was originally part of a larger estate and includes a rear service wing. The front of the villa is constructed from cream-coloured sandstone ashlar, while the rear and sides are of squared and snecked stugged rubble with droved ashlar dressings. A moulded string course runs above the ground floor, and there is a first-floor cill course and dentilled eaves cornice. The corners feature channelled quoins with a fluted frieze, and the windows have architraves, ashlar mullions, and bracketted cills, except for the canted window.

The front (southeast) elevation has a central entrance porch with coupled square Roman Doric columns, now infilled with small leaded pane windows containing coloured glass. Above the porch is a frieze, cornice, and blocking course. The porch contains a two-leaf panelled door and a rectangular plate glass fanlight. A single window is positioned at the first floor. The left bay has a full-height canted window with a half-piend roof, and the bay to the right has bipartite windows at both ground and first floor levels. The rear (northwest) elevation presents a lower, two-storey square-plan service wing with a piend roof. The main block has two single windows at ground and first floor levels. There are two coped wallhead stacks on this elevation.

The northeast elevation incorporates a rubble-built forestair leading to a first-floor entrance door, replacing a previous stair window. The door is flanked by a window with square leaded panes and coloured glass, which are remnants of the original stair window. A segmental-arched bipartite stair window sits above, mirroring the design of the flanking window. A single first-floor window is found in the right bay. The southwest elevation features three bays, with single windows to the ground and first floors in the centre and left bays.

A single-storey timber conservatory sits at ground floor to the right bay, built on a sandstone base course. It has segmental-arched openings and a finialled gable. The conservatory has timber sash and case windows with plate glass glazing in a four-pane pattern, and a piend and platform roof covered with Scottish slate and lead flashings. Two wallhead stacks are present, along with a central transverse stack with a dentilled cornice. Moulded eaves gutters and brackets complete the exterior details. The interior was not inspected in 1992.

The property also includes an octagonal moulded ashlar sundial situated at the centre of a circular driveway. A tall rubble boundary wall with semi-circular coping runs along the rear and sides, while a lower recessed rubble wall with saddleback coping fronts the property. Flanking a wrought iron gate are obelisk gatepiers with chamfered arrises.
