Description
Stockbridge Church, located at 38 Deanhaugh Street in Edinburgh, was originally designed by David Cousin between 1844 and 1845 as St George's Free Church on Lothian Road. It was re-erected at its current location in 1867-68. The church is built in a Romanesque style and features a prominent square tower with an elaborate doorpiece, a wheel window, and a belfry stage with two windows. The tower is topped with a slated pyramid spire and has arcaded pinnacles. There are also one-bay transeptal features that contain staircases, which conceal the broad four-bay church behind, characterized by a low pitched roof. The building is constructed with stugged coursers and exhibits well-detailed craftsmanship.
