1 Warriston Crescent, Edinburgh

2, 3, 4 Warriston Crescent in Edinburgh is a corner block of tenements designed by James Gillespie Graham around 1817. This three-storey and basement building features shops on the ground floor of Nos 1, 2, and 4 Warriston Place. The exterior is constructed from droved sandstone ashlar with polished dressings, while the side and rear are made of coursed rubble. Notable architectural details include cill courses at the ground and second floors, a dividing band between the basement and ground floors, and another band between the ground and first floors, topped by an eaves cornice that is raised at the center above Nos 2 and 3 Warriston Crescent.

The southwest elevation facing Warriston Place has eight bays that are regularly fenestrated, with blind windows on the first and second floors of the outer left bay. A two-leaf timber panelled door leads to No 4, which is now a shop and has been painted. The center three bays are slightly stepped forward, and the shop front, currently a restaurant, extends over the basements of Nos 1 and 2. There are doors in the third, fourth, and fifth bays from the left.

The northwest elevation facing Warriston Crescent has nine bays, also regularly fenestrated, with blind windows on the first and second floors of the penultimate bay on the right. Timber panelled doors with plate glass fanlights, which are blocked at No 3, are located in the third, fourth, fifth, and eighth bays from the left. Arched stair platts over-sail the basement areas.

The windows feature a mix of 12-pane glazing and plate glass in timber sash and case designs, with some replacements at No 1, casements on the first floor at No 2 Warriston Crescent, and plate glass at No 4 Warriston Place. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are stone skews. The building has coped ashlar stacks, some of which have been rebuilt, topped with circular cans.

Additionally, there are cast-iron handrails leading to the steps and spear-headed railings along the street at Nos 1-4 Warriston Crescent.
