15 Annfield, Newhaven, Edinburgh

7 and 8 Annfield in Newhaven, Edinburgh, are part of a long terrace of three-storey plain classical tenements, begun around 1806 and completed around 1850. The buildings are constructed from coursed stugged sandstone with raised and polished margins, some of which are painted, and feature projecting cills and long and short surrounds to the openings. There are single-storey, flat-roofed shops at Nos 3 and 4, and a public house occupies Nos 9, 10, and 11, which has a pilastered ground floor. Nos 13 and 14 are finished in cleaned coursed yellow rubble sandstone, with No 14 being a two-storey, three-bay structure that has a two-window pedimented chimney gable at the center. Nos 16 to 19 are built from coursed stugged yellow sandstone, with droved surrounds to the openings and projecting cills. A pend runs through No 19 to Annfield Street at the rear.

The north elevation features a variety of doorways on the ground floor, some with original three-light fanlights, while others are infilled or have plate glass. The remaining bays on the ground floor have single windows. The first and second floors have a regular fenestration pattern. The ground floor of Nos 3 and 4 is blocked by a modern extension. Nos 9, 10, and 11 have Doric pilasters and architraved windows. Nos 15 to 19 maintain a regular arrangement with entries in the central bay; Nos 14 to 16 have three-light fanlights, while Nos 17 to 19 feature plate glass fanlights and flanking single windows on the ground floor. The upper floors are regularly fenestrated. A basket-arched pend through No 19 is located in the outer right bay, showcasing polished voussoirs and a raised keystone.

On the south elevation, there are various single-storey additions made of render, rubble, and sandstone. A random rubble stair tower at the rear of No 13 has a conical roof and flanking piended grey slate dormers.

The buildings feature a variety of timber sash and case windows alongside modern glazing. The roof is covered in grey slate with diminishing courses, and there are coped rendered and rubble ridge stacks with circular cans. The interior was not seen in 1996.
