Description
Deanbank House consists of a row of eight single-storey farm cottages built in the late 19th century. The cottages are constructed from stugged squared rubble with dressed ashlar margins and feature stone mullions.
The principal elevation faces southeast and is symmetrical. It has a central gable with each of the middle bays containing a bipartite window, an arrowslit, and decorative timber fretwork on the bargeboarding at the gable head. The flanking bays have boarded timber doors with letterbox fanlights that break the eaves into gabled dormer heads; the right dormer has been converted into a window. Beyond these, there are also windows with gabled dormer heads, and the outer bays feature bipartite windows with jerkin heads.
The northeast elevation has a slightly advanced gable, similar to the central one, with fretwork and steps leading up to a boarded timber door and letterbox fanlight. The flanking bays contain bipartite windows that break the eaves into catslide roofs, while a modern window is found in a slightly recessed, lower jerkin-headed bay on the outer right.
The southwest elevation mirrors the northeast elevation, while the northwest elevation was formerly symmetrical but has undergone minor alterations. It includes an advanced jerkin-headed bay at the center with small gabled dormer heads in the flanking bays.
The cottages mainly feature a 4-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case windows, with grey slate roofs. The chimneys are made of coped ashlar with cans, and the bargeboarding is plain with deeply overhanging eaves, complemented by decorative cast-iron finials.
The boundary walls are made of semicircular-coped rubble.
