Description

Abbeythune House, North Lodge, dates from around 1800 to 1820, with an addition made between 1880 and 1900. This single-storey, three-bay gate lodge features a symmetrical classical design with pedimented gables and Tudor-Gothic shouldered hoodmoulds over the windows. The building is rendered and accented with red ashlar dressings, including narrow, droved margins, a base course, and a deep eaves course. It has bipartite windows with timber mullions and a piended roof addition at the north corner. The entrance doors are non-traditional, and there is a blocked window opening on the south gable.

The lodge has timber sash and case windows and a pitched slate roof. There is a square and stugged end stack with a banded cope on the south gable, while a non-traditional replacement stack is located on the north gable. The interior was last seen in 2014 and has been thoroughly modernised.

The gatepiers and quadrant walls include a square-plan, panelled ashlar gatepier with a pyramidal cap to the right of the entrance, and a replacement gatepier to the left. There is a pair of cast-iron gates featuring a fleur-de-lys finial motif. The quadrant walls are cement rendered with ashlar coping, terminating in square-plan, panelled ashlar piers with stepped caps.
