Description
Bogieshiel Lodge, associated with Ballogie House, dates from the late 18th century, with additions and alterations made in the early 19th century. The lodge is two storeys and an attic, and has three bays, with an asymmetrical design. The south and east elevations are harled, while the north and west elevations are constructed from granite rubble with long and short dressings. A base course is also present.
The east (principal) elevation is asymmetrical, featuring a three-bay design with a further three-bay addition to the north. An advanced, gabled timber porch, supported by rusticated timber columns, is centrally positioned on the ground floor, sheltering a panelled timber door with a two-pane fanlight. Windows flank the door on both sides, with regular window placement on the first floor. Three bays are slightly recessed to the outer right, with granite margins defining regularly placed windows. A single-storey outbuilding abuts the elevation to the far right.
The south elevation also presents an asymmetrical design, consisting of an 18th-century three-bay block and a later, bowed, two-bay addition. A small window is centrally positioned on the ground floor of the original block, with another window on the first floor. The flanking bay to the left has regular fenestration, while the attic floor features two modern skylights. A single-storey coped wall adjoins the elevation to the outer left. The bowed, advanced addition to the right contains two pointed-arched windows with basket tracery on the ground floor, regular fenestration on the first floor, and irregular fenestration on the left return, with modern skylights to the attic.
The north elevation is largely obscured by an adjoining five-bay outbuilding. A broad sliding boarded timber door is centrally located, flanked to the right by a two-leaf door and to the left by a boarded timber door with a glazed panel. A piend-roofed rectangular dormer breaks the eaves. A window is situated to the outer right, and an advanced, piend-roofed bay is located to the outer left, featuring two-leaf boarded timber doors.
The west elevation is asymmetrical, comprising three bays and an adjoining outbuilding to the outer left. An advanced gabled bay is positioned to the right, with a small coped walled enclosure advanced to the ground floor. A window is off-centre on both the ground and first floors. A modern panelled timber door with small-pane glazed panels sits in the flanking bay to the left, above which is a window on the first floor. A small window is located on the ground floor of the bay to the left, alongside a window on the first floor. A recessed bay on the outer left adjoins the outbuilding, featuring a small-paned glazed timber door flanked by glazed panels on the ground floor and a window on the first floor. A single-storey outbuilding is advanced to the far left, with two boarded timber doors visible on the right return.
A variety of timber sash and case windows are present throughout. The roof is covered in grey and purple-grey slate, with tiled and lead ridges. Coped wallhead, gablehead, and ridge stacks are topped with octagonal cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods are also visible. The interior was not inspected in 1999, but a room to the right contains surviving swept-down timber stall divisions.
