Description
Clova is a large house with a complex history, dating back to the mid-18th century. The original core of the house was built around 1760 as a three-story, four-window building, with a projecting central two-window section featuring a gabled roof. The exterior is harled, with quoins outlining the corners, and the roof has a noticeable bell-cast profile. A prominent, ornamented doorway with a pediment and the date 1760 is centrally located.
The interior was largely remodelled following a fire around 1810, although the original stone staircase with an open wall remains. A substantial southern wing was added circa 1850 at a right angle to this original form. This wing is two stories high with a basement, and also features four windows, with the central two windows projecting and gabled, and a four-column Roman Doric porch. This wing incorporates a single room from the early 19th century on its eastern side. Like the original part, it is harled with margins. A less substantial addition was made to the northeast around 1880.
