Description
Thornton Castle is a small square tower house that dates back to 1531. It stands three storeys high and features an elaborately corbelled parapet with angle rounds and a crowstepped cap-house. Attached to the main structure is a lower two-storey wing, which likely dates from the 17th or early 18th century, along with a round tower that also has three storeys. The building was remodelled around 1822, during which crenellated parapets were added to the wing, and the top stage of the round tower received buttresses and chimneyheads, likely from the same period. There have been further alterations and additions made later on. The castle is constructed from rubble and has slated roofs.
