Description

4 Springbank Terrace in Aberdeen is a long, simple terrace of houses built after 1821, featuring classical details. The terrace includes single and two-storey dwellings with basements and attics, characterized by oversailing stairs leading to the main doors. Notable features include distinctive wallhead stacks located at the center bay of Nos 13-15, and some retained canted dormer windows. The houses are constructed from granite ashlar, with first-floor windows positioned just below a banded eaves course, and single-storey center bays that have linking band courses above the basement and ground floor windows.

The terrace consists of nine two-bay houses from Nos 1-9, all with dividing stacks except for Nos 1 and 2. Nos 10-12, located at the center of the terrace, are three-bay single-storey houses, while Nos 13-15 are five-bay houses, with No 15 featuring a blank center bay beneath a wallhead stack. Some of the oversailing stairs still have cast iron railings, and several panelled timber doors with plate glass fanlights are preserved.

The windows include a mix of four-pane and plate glass patterns in timber sash and case styles, alongside some modern non-traditional replacement glazing and dormer windows. The roofs are covered with grey slates, and the structure features coped ashlar wallhead, gablehead, and ridge stacks with cans, as well as ashlar-coped skews.
