Description
77 Dee Street in Aberdeen is a building designed by W and J Smith and Kelly, likely William Kelly, and constructed in 1898. It is made of granite and features a gable front facing the street. The Dee Street elevation showcases banded granite at the ground level and has a three-bay frontage with a central door flanked by pilasters that separate it from sidelights, with bipartite windows in the outer bays. Above, there are two tall storeys supported by outer giant pilasters that hold a cornice, with half pilasters attached and full pilasters flanking the central bay, which supports a frieze. The central section has tripartite windows, while the outer bays have bipartite windows. A large central lunette with a bold over-arch and radial glazing is present, with oculi on either side. The building features curved angles with scrolls that support the ends of the skews. The side elevation facing Dee Place has 11 bays, with nine segment-headed openings at the ground floor and bipartite windows in all other bays. The roof is slate.
