Description

Brig o' Balgownie is an important road bridge in Aberdeen, originally constructed by Richard Cementarius between 1314 and 1318. It underwent repairs around 1444 and was largely rebuilt in the early 17th century. Further repairs were carried out by William Smith in 1861 and again by Smith and John Willet around 1877. The approaches to the bridge were widened and buttressed in 1912. The bridge features a single span with a steeply pitched pointed arch, built of ashlar stone, and has slightly corbelled parapets along with a narrow roadway.
