Description

This is a three-bay, two-storey farmhouse with an attic, built between 1820 and 1839. It is a pleasant example of mid-Victorian architecture. The house has a pitched natural slate roof with modern plastic rainwater goods, and a modern skylight to the rear. Two brick chimneys are situated on cross walls, flanking the central bay. The walls are painted and cement rendered, with stepped quoins to the front corners. A timber porch abuts the central bay at ground floor, featuring a hipped slate roof, three windows to the front, a modern door to the left, and a plain wall to the right. The four-panelled timber front door, with the top two panels glazed, a small semicircular fanlight, and two sidelights, appears late Victorian, though the door opening itself appears to be earlier. Ground floor windows consist of single 1/1 plastic top-hung windows with a moulded keystoned architrave and painted bracketed cills, located in the left and right bays. Three matching windows are spaced evenly on the first floor. The left and right gables each contain two 1/1 plastic windows to the ground floor, two to the first floor, and a smaller window in the attic gable. The rear of the house has undergone significant alterations, including a large gabled return and a lean-to projection, which are of no particular interest. The building is located in the townland of Ballynacraig and was depicted on the 1834 Ordnance Survey map.
