Description
The Electricity Memorial is a polished granite pedestal-type memorial located in Charlemont Square, Bessbrook, County Armagh. It was surveyed during the First and Second Surveys but not listed due to not being deemed worthy of a full survey. The memorial is inscribed on three of its four sides. The main inscription commemorates the electrification of the town in 1911, and also serves as a memorial to John Crubb Richardson, who lived from 1813 to 1890 and was formerly the sole owner of Bessbrook. The inscription also names his sons, James Nicholson Richardson and Thomas Wakefield Richardson, as being responsible for the memorial's creation. The work was superintended by Herbert Dowell, an engineer, and carried out by John Jackson, William Black, George Blakeley, and Ishmael Hanratty. The memorial currently serves as a memorial and is not listed.
