Harry's Bridge, Lissan House Demesne, Drumgrass Road, Cookstown, BT80 9SW

Harry’s Bridge is a hump-backed, masonry bridge of robust construction, carrying the main driveway to Lissan House over the Lissan Water river. While the precise date is unknown, it likely dates from the late 17th or 18th century, appearing on an Ordnance Survey map of 1833, and is presumed to be 1780 to 1799. The bridge is constructed of rubble stonework, with roughly squared voussoirs to the segmental arch on the east face, and more crisply cut voussoirs on the west side. It has rough stone copings and a vaulted soffit of rubble stonework. The carriageway is slightly humped, with grassy verges. The bridge stands within the demesne of Lissan House, set within steep banks surrounded by trees and scrub, with approach roads running parallel to the river before turning to meet the bridge. The bridge retains its original features and sits in a pleasant rural setting, representing a picturesque example of its type, still in everyday use. It has considerable local interest and enhanced group value due to its association with the development of Lissan House demesne, forming part of an interesting and valuable group of buildings. It is of industrial archaeological interest.
