AOH Hall, 253 Mountjoy Road, Killycolp

This is a small, single-storey red brick hall dating to 1907, situated on the roadside in the townland of Carnan, near Killycolp. It is a modest rural hall, with simple proportions and detailing. The southwest-facing front gable has a centrally placed, off-centre doorway with a projecting brick surround and a date plaque above reading “Erected by the AOH in 1907 Div: 97”. The door itself is timber tongue and groove. A brick chimney is located at the apex of the gable. The northwest side elevation displays three symmetrically placed segmental-headed window openings with expanded metal guarding; the windows are modern replacements in uPVC, set between brick piers. The rear northeast gable is blank, with a portable toilet kiosk located to one side and a decorative finial at the apex. The southeast elevation mirrors the northwest, with three windows, piers, and a segmental-headed door opening. The hall is built of red brick with a slate roof, and features plastic rainwater goods. The brick chimney has a dentilled string course but no pot. It sits in a small field facing the road, adjacent to a farm. A simple timber post and beam fence forms the front boundary, with thick hedges on the sides, and the surrounding ground is primarily grass. The building was named ‘Carnan Hibernian Hall’ on an Ordnance Survey map from 1934-35.
