Description
Inver House was a two-storey Georgian house built between 1800 and 1819. It appeared on an Ordnance Survey map of 1832 and was already in a run-down condition when first surveyed in 1970. The house had lined rendered walls, a hipped slated roof with a moulded eaves cornice, and rusticated quoins at the extremities of the building and at the corners of a central bay which projected forward to contain the recessed entrance. The entrance was formed with a semi-circular headed opening flanked by channelled pilasters, with a fanlight above containing georgian bar windows. A later, poorly designed square porch was added. All windows were sash windows with georgian bar windows on the front elevation, including a triple window above the entrance. A rear extension was lighted by plain sash windows. The house was demolished in the 1970s or 1980s, leaving only a two-storey range of outbuildings of little architectural or historic interest. References suggest the house, occupied by Archibald Barklie near the bleach green and church, was ‘upwards of 20 years built.’
