Bridge at farmyard, Castle Dobbs, Dobbsland, Carrickfergus, Co Antrim, BT38 9BU

The bridge, dated 1855, is a single-span road bridge carrying a private road within the Castle Dobbs estate over the Kilroot River. It is an elegant and simply detailed structure with dressed stone coping and voussoirs. The bridge's design is in keeping with the nearby farm complex and contributes to the group value of other listed buildings on the Castle Dobbs estate. The abutments, spandrels and parapets are constructed from random rubble; the coping is curved vermiculated sandstone. A segmental-headed arch, with dressed rockfaced voussoirs, spans the river. A datestone is located on the south elevation, and the arch soffits are of random rubble. The carriageway is approximately 4 metres wide and has a recent tarmac surface. The bridge is situated within a private estate, adjacent to a farm complex, and is surrounded by agricultural land. The construction date is estimated to fall between 1840 and 1859.
