Pump at junction of Drumbo, Pinehill and Front Roads, Drumbo, Lisburn

This is a rotary water pump, dating from between 1920 and 1939, situated at the junction of Drumbo, Pinehill, and Front Roads in Drumbo, Lisburn. It occupies a prominent position in the village centre and serves as a reminder of a time when public sources were the primary supply of drinking water.

The pump is a two-wheeled, rotary design, featuring a splay-shaped, undecorated column and a fluted cap. An inscription on the base of the column reads ‘W Willis Dublin Road Belfast 1930’, identifying the plumber, while the opposite side bears 'W & Co B', indicating Winnington & Co, Belfast, as the manufacturer. The cap is damaged, along with the axle connecting the two wheels. The pump is prominently positioned on a street corner opposite the Parish Church.

A pump is depicted at this location on Ordnance Survey maps from 1902, 1919, and 1938 (held at PRONI, Ref OS 10/3/9/14/1-3), suggesting that the current pump is a replacement for an earlier one. The pump is of industrial archaeological interest, displaying characteristics of style, proportion, ornamentation and setting.
