Description
This is a detached, three-bay, single-storey house built around 1920 in the Ballynamullan townland, Omagh, County Tyrone. The house, located on the west side of Hawthorn Road and accessed by a lane, is rectangular in plan and faces south. It is rendered with smooth cement, features rendered quoins at the corners, and similar detailing around the door and window openings. The roof is pitched and covered in natural slate, with blue/black clay ridge tiles, a central red brick chimneystack, and cement verges to both gables. Cast-iron rainwater goods run along the projecting eaves course. The windows are timber sliding sash windows with camber-headed openings and stone sills. The front elevation has a door in the east bay, featuring a timber door with a glazed upper panel. The west gable is blank, and the rear north elevation is obscured by vegetation, as is the east gable. The house retains many original features including the timber sash windows, original room layout, and timber joinery.
Historical records indicate a previous building occupied the site, shown on maps from 1833 and 1854, which was noted as demolished or 'down' by 1896. The outline of the current house appears on the 1906 Ordnance Survey map edition. Valuation records from 1913 refer to the construction of the house and land, valued at £1.10s and occupied by John Mulholland, and leased from Omagh Rural District Council. The fourth edition Ordnance Survey map from 1935-7 shows the house and a smaller building opposite the west elevation, which no longer exists.
