Description
Double height symmetrical modernist Roman Catholic Church built to designs by Patrick Haughey 1969. Externally square plan church with single storey rectangular projecting porch to front elevation and side chapel/vestry to rear elevation. Consists of loadbearing external walls clad in polygonal rubble stone at ground level, with continuous aluminium clad clerestorey at first floor level with rectangular windows. Roof consists of shallow pyramid. There are seven windows on each of the three main elevations with splayed reveals and stained glass. Stained galss is modern abstract in vivid citrus colours and is designed by Neil Shawcross. Rear elevation has deep flat metal soffit and centrally located single storey rectangular outshot clad in stone, housing side chapel, confession booths and vestry. Front porch consists of two solid gable walls clad in stone with a flat roof with deep soffit clad in metal and recessed timber and glass entrance screen spanning its full length.
