Description

The building is approached by means of a short lane that crosses the Crigh Burn close to the end of a minor road about a mile in length that proceeds south-west from the road from Killeter to Meenafergus. It is positioned about four miles from Killeter and faces south-east. As surveyed in October 2000: A single storey harled and whitened, two bay direct entry, stone built house with thatched roof that covers a byre on the south-west side. The roof structure has fallen in on the right hand (north-east) side. The gable still standing reveals a number of cement fillet flashings remaining from various periods of roofing. This gable rises to a rendered chimneystack with a narrow coping from which protrudes a flue liner. The chimneystack between the dwelling and the store on the south-west side is also rendered and finished with a flaunched top from which one flue liner protrudes The entrance, protected by a square jambed windbreak porch is covered by an extension of the roof covering. There is a top hung window to the left (south-east) of the porch and evidence that a similar opening existed at the right hand (north-east) side before the collapse. The window in this location is missing. Contiguous and to the left of the dwelling the byre is entered by a timber ledged and sheeted door. An opening in the south-west gable has been blocked with stone and a narrow slit remains. A matching slit towards the front corner of the house has been sealed. Starting from the south-west at the rear there is a small opening in the rear wall of the store, and then an outshot projection followed by a small plain window to finish finally with a large empty opening that retains its outer timber window framing. There are the remains of a shed abutting the right hand (north-east) gable. A separate outbuilding, set at an angle to the south-west gable of the house, is stone built whitened and with a roof of corrugated iron. This building does not appear on the OS maps of 1833 or 1853. Since the time of the survey the roof has fallen in and walls have been also badly damaged.
