52 Castle Street, Ballycastle, Co Antrim, BT54 6AR

52 Castle Street is a simple, three-bay wide house dating probably to the early 19th century, with a small, modern shopfront incorporated into its front elevation. It is located within the Ballycastle Conservation Area and its form is considered complementary to those of its neighbours. The building is shown on Ordnance Survey maps of 1832, and its construction is estimated to have occurred between 1840 and 1859.

The front elevation faces Castle Street. On the ground floor, from left to right, is a large display window with two panes, followed by a shop door with two panes of glass and a plastic name fascia. A modern sheeted door provides access to living accommodation, alongside a single sliding sash window with two panes, a moulded architrave, and a keystone. The first floor features three widely spaced sliding sash windows, each with two panes, mirroring the ground floor pattern. A corbel course runs along the elevation, above which is a cast-iron ogee gutter with a single square downpipe. Two Velux windows are visible on the roof. The walls are smooth, rendered, and painted, and the roof is covered with man-made slates. A chimney stack at one gable is pebble-dashed.

To the rear, a two-story, three-bay long return features a double-pitched roof and a single chimney stack. The building follows the established terrace building line, and its ridge line is level with number 50 Castle Street, minimizing roof stepping due to its location near the top of the street.
