Description

This is a two-storey building constructed between 1940 and 1959 as a Coastguard Lookout, situated on the cliff edge adjacent to the ruins of Dunineny Castle. The building is a small, rectangular structure with a lean-to roof. The ground floor is built of masonry and rendered with Tyrolean plaster, featuring minimal windows and doors. The first floor is clad with horizontal clap boarding, and includes a projecting balcony on the seaward side, protected by steel open railing. A wide observation window overlooks the balcony and the sea, returning a short distance on each flanking wall. All windows and doors are currently boarded up. While the building's design is modern, it has been altered and is now partially derelict. It was closed in the late 1970s. Although it has no special architectural or historic interest, the building has some industrial archaeological interest. It is shown on the Ordnance Survey map of 1970-2 and may be stylistically dated to the 1950s or 1960s. The building is owned by Central Government.
