Description

This concrete boundary marker stands on the west side of Rectory Road, in the townland of Ballyversal, approximately 7 kilometers southeast of Portrush, 6 kilometers northeast of Coleraine, and 10 kilometers northwest of Ballymoney. It is one of a set of stones marking the historic boundary between the counties of Antrim and Londonderry, located along country roads in the area north of Ballymoney and east and southeast of Coleraine, Portrush, and Portstewart.

Likely dating from the late 19th or early 20th century, the marker's construction and inscription style suggest a possible connection to the introduction of County Councils following the 1898 Local Government (Ireland) Act. The marker measures approximately 300mm x 600mm x 150mm and is set into a dense grass verge, with a mature hedgerow immediately behind. The base is not visible.

The front face features lettering, approximately 25 to 35mm high, cast or stamped into the concrete, reading "COUNTY BOUNDARY ANTRIM DERRY." The words "ANTRIM" and "DERRY" are intricately interlaced with the word "BOUNDARY," using the letters "A" and "Y" to create a decorative effect. The marker shows significant weathering, with extensive lichen and moss growth, and considerable damage and loss of the cast face, particularly on the upper and top surfaces. The upper lettering is illegible, the letter "M" is missing from "ANTRIM," although "DERRY" remains clearly visible. The marker leans backwards towards the northwest. It is currently recorded as derelict, but remains of local and historical importance due to its rarity and association with local government history.
