Description

A two-storey four-bay mid-terrace townhouse pre-dating 1830. Rectangular plan form with a two-storey rear return. Located to the north of the village on the east side of Main Street. Pitched natural slate roofing with clay ridge tiles; wet dash chimney; partially removed cast-iron rainwater goods. Wet dash; plain long-and-short quoins and smooth rendered plinth band. Plain raised reveals to windows and doors; plain string course at first floor cill level; masonry cills. Windows 6/6 vertically hung timber sliding sash. The principal elevation faces west and is asymmetrically arranged. The door is located right of centre with two windows on either side. Diminished in height first floor windows located directly over the ground floor openings except for one right of centre. The left gable adjoins adjoining building 14 Main Street (HB17/03/019). No view to the rear elevation but windows appear to have been replaced with modern top hung casements, at least to the ground floor. The right gable abutted by two-storey adjoining building 18 Main Street (HB17/03/021). Setting The building is in a continuous terrace running the full length of the east side of Main Street. Heavily vegetated embankment to the rear. Opposite the house is a modern information centre adjacent to the landscaped public area, beyond which runs the Newry Canal.
