Description
The structure was a mausoleum, recorded on an Ordnance Survey map dating to 1833. It was built into a rocky mound and constructed with field rubble walls. The eastern side featured a flat arch entrance recess, and the roof was a curved structure rendered over. An inscription above a bricked-up inner entrance reads: "The Tomb of William Nicholson Esq. - 30 Jan. 1792." A more recent white marble slab on the south wall of the entrance records details regarding William W. Steele-Nicholson, born in 1772 and died in 1840, along with other family members. The mausoleum has since been demolished, and the site now accommodates a park and a wind turbine. The site was partially surveyed on 13 December 1973.
