War Memorial, Memorial Park, Ballynure Road, Located near 3A Ballynure Road, Ballyclare, Co. Antrim, BT39 9AG

This is a two-stage granite war memorial, built circa 1945 and situated in Memorial Park, to the west side of Ballynure Road, Ballyclare. Approximately three metres high and facing east, it commemorates local veterans and the war dead. The memorial sits on a partially rock-faced pedestal that rises from a concrete base, bearing applied lettering with the names of those who died in conflict. The pedestal supports a tapering plinth with a moulded cornice, surmounted by a squat obelisk. The remaining elevations are blank. The memorial is set on an approximately 12-foot square elevated grass mound. The park is accessed via an ornate iron gate with a cast-iron arch supported on cast-iron piers featuring open scrollwork. The memorial was erected after the Second World War. Memorial Park also contains a 13th-century Norman motte, originally built as a defensive outpost of Carrickfergus Castle. The memorial and gates dominate the park and serve as a recognisable local landmark.
