Description

Oakhill Maltings is a mid-19th century malting house and associated offices situated on the south side of High Street, Ashwick. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with dressed quoins, and has a double-span roof with gables facing the street, covered with double roman tile. The building is divided into two sections. The left-hand section is four storeys high and one bay wide. The right-hand section is three storeys high and three bays wide. This section features semi-circular arched windows with glazing bars set in plain stone surrounds, accented with keystones and imposts. The sills are bracketed, and a central window on the right-hand side is larger than the other openings. It also contains a fourth-storey window, half-glazed with a bell insert. A broad semi-circular archway, now infilled with 20th-century glazing, is located on the right-hand side. The return elevation to High Street is twelve bays wide, with the first and twelfth bays stepped forward. It has stone mullion windows of two lights and single-light wooden casements in block surrounds, most of which are now blocked. To the left is a smaller malthouse constructed of rubble with a slate roof and featuring 20th-century casement windows.
