Description
The Printers Restaurant, formerly the County Mail office, is a mid-19th century newspaper office, now a restaurant. It is constructed of stucco with a Ham Hill stone plinth, quoins, keystones, cills, a platband, and coping to the front parapet. The roof is slate, hipped in form, with a rendered stack at the centre of the forward-facing slope. The building is single-storied with a symmetrical three-window front. It has large, keyed semi-circular arched recesses framing a late 19th-century four-panel door with a high overlight, flanked by a horned 2/2-pane sash window to the front, and four 6/6-pane sashes to the left return. A small raised pediment sits at the centre of the parapet. The interior has been altered, except for the iron roof structure. The building served as the location for The County Mail, an advertisement news sheet, which was started in 1878 and published until at least 1976.
