Description

The Church of the Holy Trinity is a Grade I listed building constructed between 1844 and 1846 by architects George Gilbert Scott and William Moffatt, with further work by William George Brown of Frome for James Fussell. It is built from Doulting ashlar and features lead sheeting roofs in a Free Decorated style. The church has a four-bay nave and a two-bay chancel, both adorned with gargoyles and angel figures, some of which hold tools associated with Fussell. The south porch is elaborate, with an ogee-headed outer door opening.

At the west end, lancet windows flank a central buttress that rises to a polygonal bell lantern, which has an ogee-headed opening on each face, topped by a crocketed spire. The nave windows consist of two lights, while the chancel features lancets and an east window with three lights and Geometrical tracery. The chancel includes a south-facing priest's door with an ogee crocketed canopy.

Inside, the church has a plastered interior with a collar beam roof in the nave and a plain wagon roof in the chancel. Notable features in the nave include a re-sited rood screen on the north wall, an octagonal font with crocketed niches, a small organ by Gray and Davidson, and an elaborate stone pulpit. The chancel has a tiled floor, choir stalls with carved misericords, and a reredos with crocketed finials and niches that contain paintings of angels by W.L.T. Collins of Frome. In the north corner, there is a niche that contains the tomb of Jacob Fussell. The east window features glass in a medieval style, while the remaining openings have simple stained glass.
