Description
St Martin's Vicarage is a late 19th-century brick house, likely constructed around 1863, although the glass inside suggests a later date of 1889. It was designed by G.F. Bodley, associated with his nearby St Martin's Church, and built in the Queen Anne style of Norman Shaw. The building is a fine example of this architectural manner. It is two storeys high with an attic, and features a tiled roof with corniced and diagonally-set paired chimney stacks. Tall, flush-framed sash windows are set within three slightly projecting sections, with pediments above the first-floor windows that continue upwards through the eaves to the attic gables. A brick string course runs above the ground floor. The front door is set in a slightly projecting porch with a carved panel above and a steep brick pediment high above.
