Description

Kiln House is a house dating from the 17th century, likely with earlier origins. It is constructed of coursed squared stone, with ashlar detailing, and has a Welsh slate roof. The house is single-story with attics and has three bays. It follows a lobby-entry plan. A gabled porch is located to the right of the left-hand bay, featuring a moulded, chamfered stone doorcase and a board door. Inside the porch is a 17th-century studded board door with original hinges, set within a stone, chamfered surround with a four-centred arch. To the left of the porch is a double-chamfered three-light mullioned window, and a similar five-light mullioned window is located to the right of the porch. The right-hand bay has a four-light chamfered mullioned window. Dormers with three-light chamfered mullioned windows are above the left-hand bay and the bay to the right of the porch; the dormer to the left utilizes 1970 materials salvaged from the 17th century. An end stack is located to the right, and there is another stack on the ridge opposite the entrance. The left return side features a stone staircase leading to the first floor. Inside, there are two cruck frame trusses and a large central inglenook fireplace with an oven to the rear.
