Description

The Grouse is a public house, now divided into three houses, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of dressed stone with a hipped stone slate roof. The front of the building, which faces High Street, is two storeys high and has five bays, with alternating doors and windows. The window surrounds are plain. The ground floor windows have 6-pane raised and fielded doors, and the windows are sash windows with glazing bars, except for the central first-floor window. The two central windows on the front are tripartite. The rear front, which faces West Street, has three bays and glazing bar sash windows, those on the ground floor set within segmental headed recesses. To the left of the building is a taller section with two garage doors, above which is a large tripartite window within a segmental relieving arch. This window is sash with glazing bars and is treated as an engaged Ionic colonnade in antis. There are three chimneys.
