Description
Gardenstone Farmhouse, with an adjoining granary and stable, dates to around 1700, with extensions added in the early to mid-19th century. The original farmhouse is constructed from large, irregularly-laid stone, while the later extensions and outbuildings are of red brick. The house has a Welsh slate roof, and the outbuildings have pantiles. Brick chimneys are present. The house is arranged in an L-shape and has two storeys and three windows. A 20th-century six-panel door, with side lights, is set within a modern stone porch with a sloping roof. Late 19th-century sash windows are set in plain reveals, each with keystones and cills. A mid-19th century brick extension was added to the left for farm servants. The rear elevation features an original door within a stone doorcase with stepped jambs, alternating rustication, and a triple keystone. A two-storey parlour wing, dating to around 1800, is located to the north-west, with flat, gauged brick arches over its openings. This wing connects to a mid-19th century granary, which in turn links with a one-storey stable range to the west. The stable range has an arcaded front with nine bays, a stone rear wall, and original stable fittings inside.
