Description

The Oaks is a house dating from the early to mid 17th century, with alterations in the late 17th century and an addition from the late 18th century. It is constructed from large blocks of red sandstone rubble with flush quoins, and features an extension built of red sandstone ashlar with V-jointed calciferous sandstone quoins. The roofs are covered in sandstone slate, with the extension having a hipped greenslate roof, and ashlar chimney stacks are present.

The house is two storeys high with five bays, and a higher two-storey, three-bay extension to the left. A central window features a late 17th century bolection moulded architrave, originally framing the entrance. Ground floor sash windows have glazing bars in late 17th century architraves with drip moulds. Yorkshire sash windows with glazing bars are set within chamfered surrounds under drip moulds on the upper floor. The extension has a six-panel door set beneath a radial fanlight, within an open-pedimented Doric doorcase. Sash windows in the extension have glazing bars in painted stone surrounds.

The house was the ancestral home of the Blamire family, who renamed it from Hollinbush to The Oaks. Outbuildings to the right are not considered to be of historic interest.
