Description

The Rectory is a c1820 building, altered in 1874. It is constructed of lias and limestone ashlar with a Collyweston slate roof. The building has an irregular L-shaped plan. The garden front has a three-window range, featuring tall sash windows with glazing bars on the ground floor, under gauged stone heads. Similar square windows are on the first floor. A large polygonal bay to the left has similar windows and lateral ashlar stacks. A two-window range attached to the right has a lower eaves level. A four-bay range set back to the rear right is also similar, with a one-window range to the left. The entrance front, to the left of the garden front, has a central panelled door set within a moulded stone doorcase and flanking pilasters and side windows. A tripartite sash window to the left is set in a shallow arched recess, with a gauged stone head, similar to the blank recess to the right, with sash windows above. The rear elevation has similar sash windows. The interior includes a hall remodelled in 1874 and a private chapel with a small stained glass window. It is believed that The Rectory was rebuilt on the site of a 16th-century house.
